SONGKRAN FESTIVAL CHIANG MAI
The Songkran Festival celebrating the New Year lasts from 12th-15th April, during this time water is thrown over people in the street from buckets or using water pistols and our hotel provided rubbish bins filled with water so that everyone could join in. We had watched from the 4th floor swimming pool for the first day as people in tuk tuks or taxis or anyone on the street were soaked by the dozens of people with water pistols or buckets-nobody is safe. We spent the second afternoon drinking at the outside bar and eventually I had to buy a water pistol so that I could join in. We both had such a great time the atmosphere was fantastic with everybody laughing and wishing each other a happy new year, I am so glad we were able to take part in this event.
