HUA HIN 19TH-22ND APRIL
Finally arrived at our hotel sailomhotelhuahin.com Hua Hin at about 4.30 and it is pouring with rain some of the streets are flooded but after about an hour the sun comes out and we have a walk on the beautiful beach and all is good.
As there is the potential for more rain we decide to cross the road to the brand new mall Blue Port which is a weird combination of 2 Uk shopping destinations Blue Water and Freeport so easy to remember the name when we have to get tuk tuks. Mall is actually quite impressive with some beautiful restaurants and a kind of fake beach theme downstairs with people cooking. We have a meal and it is good but sadly lacks the atmosphere of an actual market. On the way out we discover a restaurant which serves imported cheeses and wine and as I have been dreaming about cheese for a couple of weeks now I decide to come here for my birthday.
After all the amazing breakfasts this morning was a huge disappointment, a platter of pineapple and some melon, plain old square bread and little packets of jam and marmalade although I don't think either of these had come anywhere near a piece of fruit, one solitany sad fried egg and some other bits and pieces that don't even deserve a mention, oh and a very little salad bar with a mayonnaise that had split, oh well you can't win them all and we do have chocolate in the fridge!!
We spend the day by the pool which we have completely to ourselves and in the evening go to the night market where we have delicious Tom Yung soup scallops with pepper and garlic, deep fried red snapper and rice mm mm.
21st April - It's my birthday today so after spending the morning by the pool we catch a bus to look at a hotel for our last 4 days called Reunkanok Thai house, it is really beautiful and we book it there and then for 26th-30th April.
We then catch the bus back to Blue Port which is where we make an exciting discovery in the food hall.... they have cheese, not just any cheese Cathedral City mature cheddar, Stilton, garlic and herb oh my the choice is amazing. Jim enquires whether we should get some cheese to have before we go out I decide there and then that we don't need to go to posh restaurant where we will have is a miniscule piece of cheese with a slice of French bread when we can have a selection of cheese a whole French stick and a bottle of red in our room - birthday meal sorted!!
3 hours later after some retail therapy we are both in cheese heaven and after 2 glasses of wine I can barely keep awake as it's the most I have had to drink in a long time.
Breakfast today was definitely improved by the garlic cheese on my toast.
