STARRY STARRY NIGHT 29TH JANUARY

Starry starry night 29th January

Today we have travelled back to Queenstown as we were only here for one day and the weather was very wet.  Today is beautiful and after booking into the same hostel we go for a walk around the lake and then have a drink on a cute little boat that is always moored in the quay.
We grab some food to cook pasta back at the hostel and then we have a couple of hours before we head off for some star gazing.  All day we have been looking at the sky thinking will it go ahead as there were a few clouds and then the sky became so clear that we knew it wouldn't be cancelled.
At 10.30 we took our gondola up the very steep incline to the top - it was very earrie as all of the other gondolas passed us with no passenger swaying in the dark and I was pleased when we finally reached the top. At 11pm we headed outside with our guide Christian and walked up to  where  the telescopes were.  The sky was amazing filled with stars not just flat but three dimensional it was really beautiful.  Christian was brilliant and told us all about the planets and stars and we looked at different stars through the telescope. We walked back to our hostel at 12.30 ready for sleep ......off to see Mount Cook tomorrow .
