An amazing morning with Dusky Dolphins 3rd February
Up at 6am today for our Dusky Dolphin encounter. It took about 30 minutes on the boat to find the dolphins and I was overwhelmed, it was a magical experience - Jim went in the water with about 15 other people and I stayed on the boat - there were about 6 of us who didn't swim. There were about 100 dolphins in the pod today and they were just amazing, leaping out of the water surfing with the boat and swimming with the people in the water. The dolphins are not encouraged with food they are wild animals and are really inquisitive - if they make eye contact with the swimmer they circle around really fast it's as if they are trying to make the swimmer dizzy. I had a fantastic time both watching the dolphins and taking photographs - best trip ever with www.encounterkaikoura.co.nz
4th February
A day for relaxing, we went to the local market in a school then sat by the beach reading our books that we purchased. I am going to cook for only the second time in nearly a month tonight, kind of missing it which sounds strange after cooking for 42 years! Went to another beach this afternoon and Jim had a swim but it is far to cold for me. Back at the hostel and it's all go in the communal kitchen I feel like I am on masterchef as I prepare Mary Berry's spicy tortilla lasagne. Over dinner we chat to 2 girls from Denmark and end up offering them a lift to Christchurch tomorrow which will save them hitchhiking.
