Lost in the Forest 1st February
It is our second day in Hanmer Springs and we decide to go for a walk before another visit to the thermal pools. It takes about an hour to do the round trip which consists of paths winding up through the forest. It is hard work as it is very hot but we get there and the views are incredible. Now the sensible thing would be to walk back down but Tristan had mentioned you could walk along the top and back down by the river so this is what we decide to do. One hour later with the sun blaring down we are lost - we have no water and I have no hat which is a bit stupid but it was cloudy when we left. Jim climbs up a couple of paths to see if there is a way out and then announces we will have to go back and heads off at a fast pace leaving me behind, so everytime I catch him up he is resting!! to be fair he then says "do you want a rest" but I bravely say "no I am fine" when I am obviously not. The funniest thing was when we entered a dark part of the forest and Jim said "do you want my hat" errr not in the forest.
We finally reached the bottom almost 4 hours after starting note to oneself - never do the extended route!
After another relaxing couple of hours at the pools we have a wonderful Indian meal at Coriander - Tandoori lamb chops, vegetable curry, rice, naan bread and onion bargees.
