ROLLESTON NEAR CHRSTCHURCH 5TH FEBRUARY
We leave our hostel in Kaikoura with 2 extra passengers today - 2 lovely girls from Denmark - Anna and Eda who we spoke to whilst having dinner last night, they were going to Christchurch so we gave them a lift. After we had dropped the girls in Christchurch we drove to New Brighton beach - the weather was really hot but the sea is so cold that only Jim goes in again. We arrive at our Airbnb at about 5 and it is a lovely room with 2 comfy chairs ensuite super comfy bed and even a kettle microwave toaster and fridge pure luxury!!
6th February
Went to the port of Lyttleton and had a lovely meal of sizzling fish platter with coconut rice it was really good. We then drove to a beach and Jim had a swim-I seriously don't think I am going to be able to get in the water here it is so cold. Our hosts at our Airbnb asked if we wanted to join them for a drink this evening which was lovely we sat and chatted for about 2 hours.
7TH FEBRUARY
Visited Christchurch today oh my the devastation is incredible and so much work going on. We did the tram trip which was brilliant and the drivers are so informative and also a little train around the Botanical gardens which was wonderful and once again the girl who drove and commentated was excellent she new so much about the plants trees and history of the garden. Had a great burger at the RSA restaurant which as well as serving deleicious food raises money for returning soldiers and had lots of info about the war etc.
Arrived home about 9 and said our goodbyes to Jayne and Bruce they have been lovely hosts and have also said there is no need to rush off in the morning which is great as we have a whole boot full of stuff to fit into 2 suitcases and 2 rucksacks!!!!
Wow!! What happens in three days!!!!! Still sounds exciting and informative as well as 'life there' - normal!! I wonder if I could solve your packing arrangements? Come out as a packawaller? Love Lindax
